The plastinated pig kidney has been dilated to expand the renal pelvis and calyces to a normal life-like dimension. The distended kidney shows the three-dimensional nature of the kidney that students can better appreciate than a diagram or plastic model. Renal papillae can be seen projecting into the distended spaces.
